For most Modern Devices within the last 2-3 years of manufacture, there is not a major issue with Battery drain outside of opening the app to review. In the few times that mileage should be reviewed, there should be minimal impact on your device's battery. If you are noticing issues, some of the steps below can be done to try to alleviate those issues.
When using TripLog it’s helpful to remember a few things
In order to track mileage, the app needs accurate GPS location readings that require more battery use. These readings are taken when the app is in Live Tracking / GPS tracking mode. You can choose to disable the app when not in use, but you do run the risk of missing trips.
Always allow location permission is required for proper usage, but the ability to use other autostarts like Car Bluetooth and Triplog Beacon will reduce that background usage due to only using the location when actively tracking.
The TripLog Drive will reduce battery usage significantly due to the ability to use an internal GPS when connected to limit the drain on the phone.
In addition, for Auto Start to work, TripLog sits in the background and waits for a power plug-in event. During this idle time, the app also uses GPS to stay alive in the background. The GPS indicator on the notification bar shows whether or not GPS is turned on. However, in this situation, the GPS and battery use is very low and kept to a minimum.
If you want to preserve battery life, you can turn off Auto Start from TripLog > menu > Auto Start Settings > Enable Auto Start > OFF. You will need to manually turn it back on later. New versions of the app can allow you to pause MagicTrip or set the app to Do Not Record on After Hours settings to reduce battery consumption when not in use.
